Pending debits and considerations
You have the option to cancel any pending debits when closing your account if they haven’t been sent for processing. If you cancel any pending debits, you won’t be able to use EarnIn’s services or open a new EarnIn account until these are repaid.
If your account is already closed, you can reach support by tapping the question mark icon in the upper right corner of the EarnIn app login screen.
If a debit request fails after your account is closed, you will receive an email or push notification about upcoming debit attempts.
As you close your account, here are some things to consider:
- You also won’t have access to your account to review debit details or other information.
- Any remaining Tip Yourself balances will be sent automatically to your linked bank account when the account closes. If we’re unable to send funds to the linked bank, our support team will reach out to the email on file to coordinate a paper check delivery.
- Once your account is closed, we won't be able to reopen it. If you wish to use our service again, please create a new account and follow the instructions.
- If you decide to create a new account, please note you won't be able to reuse the same banking information for 7 days, from the last transaction (EarnIn debit) on your old EarnIn account.
- Once your account has been closed, you will receive an email confirmation from EarnIn.
What happens to my available earnings if I close the account?
The available earnings on the app are a representation of how much you make for a specific pay period. You’re able to transfer your pay period Max, and EarnIn only debits the amount you’ve transferred on your payday.
Cash Out Customers with Early Pay or Live Pay
If you’re a Early Pay or Live Pay (EarnIn Card) customer, contact EarnIn’s customer support to close your Deposit Account permanently. At this time, unenrollment can’t be completed manually in the app.
Our support team will guide you through the process, including how to redirect your direct deposit to a bank account of your choice, and help ensure there’s no interruption to your financial routine.
Note: You won’t be eligible to sign up for a Deposit Account or EarnIn Card again if you do so.
Cash Out Link Customers - Account Closure Notices
When you close your EarnIn Central account (Cash Out Link):
- You’ll be offboarded from all EarnIn products, including Cash Out Link and Early Pay
- Your Lead Bank account (used for Cash Out Link) will be closed as part of the process
- Any remaining balances or repayments will be handled before the account is fully closed
Cash Out Link and Early Pay cannot be closed separately.
Closing your account happens in two stages.
Step 1: Account deactivation (pending closure)
Once you request account closure:
- Your account is considered inactive
- You won’t be able to:
- Request funds withdrawals
- Receive direct deposits
During this time, EarnIn may still process:
- Repayments (repayment cannot be cancelled upon account closure)
- ACH or direct deposit returns
- Dispute-related credits
This stage lasts up to 90 days.
Step 2: Final account closure
After the pending closure period, your account will be fully closed, any remaining balance will be handled as mentioned below.
If your balance is $0: Your account will fully close automatically after 90 days
If your balance is greater than $0:
- The remaining funds will be sent to your linked bank account
- If your linked bank account isn’t available, you’ll receive a paper check
If your balance is less than $0 (outstanding repayments)
- Your account will stay in Pending Closure
- Repayment will still be required
- Your account will fully close 90 days after the balance is paid off
If you’d like to close your Lead Bank account but keep your EarnIn account open, contact customer support via in-app chat. The same two-step closure process applies, including the 90-day Pending Closure period.
