FAQ - Rent Reporting

Rent Reporting is an EarnIn subscription feature that helps you build credit by reporting your on-time rent payments to the three major credit bureaus: Experian, Equifax, and TransUnion. When you enroll, EarnIn works with our partner to submit your monthly rent payments to the credit bureaus on your behalf. On-time payments can help improve your credit score over time.

Rent Reporting costs $2.99 per month, billed 2 days after the start of each billing cycle.

Am I eligible for Rent Reporting?

To use Rent Reporting, you need to:

  • Have an active bank account connected to EarnIn
  • Be enrolled in Credit Monitoring
  • Be enrolled in Cashout, or use Early Pay / Live Pay through Lead Bank

Rent Reporting is not available if you use Early Pay on Evolve Bank, have a Cashout link, or have a payroll-only account.

How do I enroll?

You can find Rent Reporting in a few places in the EarnIn app:

  • The home screen promo card
  • Your Credit Monitoring dashboard
  • The discovery page

During enrollment, you'll confirm your lease start and end dates, your monthly rent amount, and your home address. EarnIn uses your existing account information for identity verification — no additional steps required.

Once you enroll, EarnIn submits up to 24 months of your past rent payment history to help build your credit history right away.

How does reporting work?

EarnIn identifies your rent payments using your connected bank account data. Each month, we send a report to the credit bureaus. Esusu submits reports on a monthly batch schedule — after submission, bureaus typically reflect the update within a few business days. If you recently enrolled, it can take up to 30–60 days for your payment history to first appear on your credit report.

You'll receive a notification each time a monthly payment is sent to Esusu.

Where can I see my Rent Reporting status?

In the EarnIn app, go to your Credit Monitoring dashboard. You'll see a Rent Reporting section that shows:

  • Your payment history calendar
  • Reporting status with the credit bureaus
  • Your bank connection health
  • An estimated credit impact visualization
  • A link to support and disputes

You can also check your subscription status in Settings → Subscription.

Can I update my lease information?

Yes. If your rent amount, address, or lease dates change, you can update them in the app. From your Rent Reporting dashboard, tap Manage lease info to update your address, rent amount, lease start/end dates, or retag your rent transaction.

Note: updating your address here will also update your EarnIn profile address.

How do I cancel Rent Reporting?

You can cancel anytime through the app: tap the hamburger menu → My Subscriptions → Rent Reporting → Unsubscribe.

If you change your mind before the billing cycle ends, you can resubscribe: hamburger menu → My Subscriptions → Resubscribe.

After cancellation, your subscription stays active through the end of your current billing cycle. Rent reporting will stop once the subscription ends.

Note: If you have any unpaid balances from previous billing cycles, those remain due after cancellation.

Can I get a refund?

A refund may be available if your rent payment has not yet been reported to the credit bureaus for that billing cycle, and the payment is not more than 3 months old.

Important: Requesting a refund will permanently end your Rent Reporting subscription. You would need to re-enroll if you want to start reporting again.

To request a refund, contact EarnIn support.

What if my rent payments aren't being detected?

If EarnIn isn't identifying your rent payments in your bank transaction data, please use the support/disputes link in the Rent Reporting section of the app, or contact EarnIn support.

Because EarnIn uses positive-only reporting, a missed month won't negatively affect your credit score — it just means that payment won't be reported.

Will I be charged if my rent wasn't reported one month?

Yes. The monthly fee covers access to the Rent Reporting service, not a per-report charge. If EarnIn's partner couldn't detect a rent payment in your bank transaction data for a given month, you'll still be billed for that cycle.

If your rent isn't being detected regularly, contact EarnIn support and we'll open a ticket with our partner to investigate.

Does enrollment require a credit check?

What if I think something was reported incorrectly?

If what's showing on your credit report doesn't match your Rent Reporting history in the app, contact EarnIn support to review. You can also file a dispute directly with Esusu, our reporting partner, at rentsupport@esusu.org or 929-269-8032.

No. Enrolling in Rent Reporting does not require a hard credit pull.

Can I enroll if I pay rent with cash or check?

Yes, you can enroll even if you pay rent by cash or check.
